You entrusted your pet to us because it needed medical care, and it is now in our care? You would like to reclaim your pet immediately or once it has been treated?
Abandoning a pet in a clinic is always difficult, but it's for the animal's own good. We are committed to treating your pet as if it were our own, and to caring for it as best we can. Please note, however, that our organization does not cover the care of pets owned by private individuals, as this is not our mission, and we believe it would only contribute to making pet owners less responsible.
Treating people's dogs and cats with our clinic discounts would be fraud. Our discounts are in place to help homeless animals, not to return them to their former families. There are foundations for that very purpose.
The reality of animal rescue is that the pet comes first for us and for our donors. Our volunteers often have to pull out their own credit cards to make deposits, and every year the organization goes into debt with several cases. Our mission is not to take on debt for people; we're here to save lives, and we do it 100% on a volunteer basis.
All our rescues are carried out on our spare time. We often make personal sacrifices and take risks to help these animals. Since we accept many clinic surrenders, we make sure that no one receives preferential treatment out of respect for other families who have been forced to give up their sick or injured pet for financial reasons.
The animal's name will be changed to protect your identity and reduce the risk of people you know recognizing it.Comments from former families and their friends are hidden from our posts, as your identity must remain confidential. This is mainly to protect you from Internet users, not to prevent you from expressing yourself.
We may decide to return an animal to its family if they:
had insured the animal (but the coverage was not sufficient) + have kept their vaccinations and parasite treatments up to date + had it microchipped and spayed or neutered (from 6 months for kittens and 1 year for puppies).
No family has yet met these criteria, so we've never returned an animal to its former owners. We understand that it's difficult to let an animal go, especially when it's not doing well, but we're here to rescue them, not to negotiate their return home if you don't meet the above criteria.
These four criteria are part of our definition of a responsible family, and perhaps we could consider returning the animal to the family after it has reimbursed all costs.
If you decide to undermine our organization, please know that you won't be the first, and that we'll take steps to ensure that it doesn't affect the fundraising of the animal you've abandoned.
We cut off communications in the event of threats, and being a virtual shelter, we have no premises in which your former pet is kept. Your pet is placed with an undisclosed foster family. It is therefore useless to try to find the location of the animal.
If you decide to get a new pet in the future, please make sure you have insurance and a contingency plan in place to prevent such a tragedy from happening again, and to ensure that your next pet doesn't suffer and/or die for lack of funds...
